Intro
To promote the new Grimace shake and celebrating his birthday at McDonald's, the creative team at Forever Audio pitched a collaborative playlist where users could contribute songs to mark the occasion. The success of this campaign earned it the Spotify award for Fan Favourite Campaign in 2024.
Challenges & Outcome
To build anticipation and gather attention for the campaign launch, this project was briefed in two parts. First the pre-birthday countdown encouraged users to add songs to the list (pre-checked to ensure the removal of any potential explicit content), then on the big day the whole community could come together and listen to the collaborative playlist for the celebratory moment.
The project went viral on Twitter, resulting in many users creating their own playlists separate to the official. The clients were incredibly happy with the results, and such a high user engagement as well as a trending brand moment.
Conclusion
By leveraging React/NextJS and Howler.js, we were able to exceed expectations for the brief with a tight turnaround and limited assets from the client. This was a fun project to be a part of, from the collaboration with designers as well as the output from the users themselves.
